Apples

Eat Apples for a Flat Tummy

You know the old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"... well I'm not sure how true that is but apparently they really can help you reduce belly fat! They are full of fibre, which helps you to stay full for longer, giving you the ability to stick to your healthy eating plan.

A large apple contains about five grams of fibre, and contain lots of other nutrients including calcium D-glucarate, a phytochemical that aids in liver detoxification and assists in balancing estrogen, which in turn helps to fight PMS and reduce water weight.

Choose those that haven't been sprayed and eat them with the skin on as a lot of the health benefits are in their skin.

According to Chatelaine magazine, here are some good reasons to eat apples:

1. Help reduce inflammation and prevent colon cancer:

They contain pectin, which is a soluble fibre that prevents the occurrence of colon cancer. It also has the ability to modulate the inflammatory response and protect against painful inflammation.

2. Help boost your immunity:

They contain vitamin C, making them a snack of choice especially when autumn arrives, the cold weather is coming and colds and flu season are around the corner.

3. Reduce spikes in blood sugar:

They contain amylase inhibitors, which decrease the absorption of starch and sugar in the intestinal tract. These polyphenols in apples lower absorption of sugars and prevent blood-glucose spikes while lowering the glycemic load of your entire meal.

4. Help to reduce belly fat:

They have been shown to significantly reduce visceral belly fat in overweight individuals with zero side effects. The polyphenols also plays an important role in the metabolism of all types of body fat.

5. Reduce cholesterol and protect against cardiovascular disease:

They contain specific procyanidins that have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. These are the same procyanidins that are present in red grapes and help to protect against heart disease and contribute to "the French paradox."

And some more simple reasons of my own...

6. They taste good!

Sweet and crisp and juicy - a healthier option for when you have a sugar craving.

7. They are an easy snack choice!

There isn't much work involved in grabbing one as a quick snack.

8. Kids like them!

A bowl of fresh juicy apples generally doesn't last long with kids around. And you know they are not eating empty calories.
