Refined carbohydrates particularly sugar, flour, and high-fructose corn syrup, are found in a lot of Western food.

To help your flat tummy crusade, this diet has is a four phase program involved in the approach. In addition, there are many special food products manufactured by Atkins, including various sweet 'treats'.

It is reported that most of the weight loss occurs in the first phase of the diet, known as 'induction'. This is the most restrictive phase of the diet.

In this phase, the foods allowed as part of the diet include include meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, fowl, and eggs, maximum 4 ounces of soft or semi-soft cheese, salad veg, low carb veg, butter, olive oil and vegetable oils. You must also drink eight glasses of water per day. Small amounts of caffeine is allowed but alchohol is not.

Studies tell that weight loss of 5-10 pounds per week are usual, especially when the diet is accompanied by regular exercise.

Weight loss slows as you progress through the other three phases, but the diet becomes less restrictive at the same time.
